une jolie guingette

Now if I show you this photo, what do you think it is?

Does this help?

And if I tell you that 3 weeks ago none of this existed?

And if I introduce you to this charming crowd?

I'm sure you've guessed by now.  At my friend Marianne's house, a film was being shot this week, and kindly she invited me over to admire the set.  The theme of the film is a story by Guy de Maupassant, and here they created a turn of the century guingette de campagne - a sort of bar, dance hall - beside the river.

I am full of admiration for the set designers and decorators, who have the talent to produce something so beautiful, charming and historically accurate.
