Off for the day for a fun déjeuner in Paris with a girlfriend. We both need to buy some fabric, I have curtains to make and she has a chair to upholster. We'll probably head first to the Marché St Pierre. This old quartier in Paris, lies at the foot of Montmartre, and is a great place to find beautiful fabrics at a good price.
There are several huge shops side by side, plus hundreds of tiny fabric shops in the streets around.
You can find the most elegant fabrics at knock down prices, sitting side by side with button oddments. It's really quite unique, but you need a keen eye to sort out the good from the bad, let alone the ugly!
After shopping here I love to wander around the quieter streets of Montmartre, away from the tourists, just enjoying the details on the surprisingly quiet winding streets that haven't changed in years.
For lunch, I need to be down in the Quartier St Germain, where I have an afternoon appointment. We'll grab a bite to eat at La Palette. Here the owner , Claude, loves to pretend to be in a permanent bad mood, but it's just a façade, underneath he's the biggest softy around.
Just for fun I found this old photo of the same bistro taken in the seventies. Paris hasn't changed that much. One thing that will never change is the pleasure of sitting on a café terrace with a coffee and a book, watching the world go by.
